Immigration officer, 14 others arrested for passport racketeering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Adebimpe Kehinde, for his involvement in passport racketeering.

Kehinde, an Immigration Assistant, was arrested alongside 14 other suspected passport racketeers on Thursday at the NIS Passport Office, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, based on intelligence reports received by the commission on the alleged criminal activities of the suspects.

According to the EFCC, some of the other suspects are Nnadika Timothy, Oyeyiga Samuel, Sunday Adekunle, Lola Kadoso, Adebayo Damilola, Adeola Ajiboshin and Abubakri Adebayo.

Others are Uka Ifeanyi, Raph Ibuaku, Henry Onyebuchi, Christy Odey, Aba-Peter Blessing, Ogunmefun Oluwanishola and Busayo Balogun.

The suspects allegedly conspired to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public who were applying for passports.

Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest, according to a statement by the acting Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Tony Orilade, included five laptops, mobile phones and several official documents.

Orilade said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
